28/03/16 - next tour:
The meeeting held as usual at The Cob & Pen, was primarily to discuss the venue for the 2017 tour. Having recently returned from a very enjoyable weekend in Cork, the "Anywhere but england Tour" was unanimously announced as a resounding success. Mel agreed with all present that this was going to be a tough one to follow up. Mel opened the meeting with the first item, which was to vote for next years venue. Prior to voting Mel handed out quotes he had received from 3rd party Tour agents, which were prices for packages to France & Italy. Prior to the meeting there had been much discussion about a first tour to France, however the costs involved may put some people off, and this was reflected in the vote which was 10-6 in favour of France. After discussing the various options it was decided that the best value lay with Venatours, but it was suggested that we approach Venatour with a request for accom & match ticket only package.... this Mel did later and after a series of negotiation via email, managed to get an agreeable price of £389 per person. This was to include 3 nights B&B at a 4 star hotel in Monte Martre, match ticket included, based on 2 sharing a twin room....... with the venue chosen it was now down to how much additional cost would be involved, and a figure of £600.00 was decided as our target cost. £100.00 deposit followed by 10 monthly payments of £50.00. Mel to look at our best option for travel later in the year. Mel had earlier also expressed a wish to celebrate our 15th birthday party in Paris with a special event, and was looking to come up with a fund raiser to cover the cost..... The ARRSSOL Bonus Ball competition has since been set up, looking to add an additional £1000 + to the coffers.
The meeting closed with the presentation of a wooden spoon to Bill Parry as the winner of the "lightweight of the week" for 2016. It was viewed that Bill had consumed more than his fair share of alcohol over the 3 days, however had committed the cardinal sin of retiring to his bed at 6pm!!! This was viewed by all as a blatant breach of the golden rule of not sleeping on Tour. A worthy winner (lol)
Scotland meeting 23/08/14 : Present:- Mel, Iain, Tony, Midge, Chris F, Chris N, Spence, Gwynne, Steve R,
First item on the agenda to be discussed was the new polo shirts, Mel was unhappy with the samples he had received as they were not the colour he had ordered and furthermore did not look very good. All agreed, but were hapy with the quality of the shirts and by unanimous vote agreed to change colour to black, with the addition of further artwork. A Welsh dragon to be added to the back of the collar with the three feathers emblem on the right sleeve. Mel to communicate with Tshirt studio.com Next up was "Future Tours"
Iain had come up with the idea of an "Anywhere but England " tour. The concept, quite simple, we tour for the away fixture at Twickenham in 2016, but go abroad and watch in a Welsh pub, Brilliant !! .... designs for a shirt are already a hot topic. All present loved the idea and will be discussed in full at next meeting, with hopefully a better attendance.
3rd on the list was "Friday Night in Edinburgh", as the Comedy Club is no longer an option for large parties, Mel has done some research looking for an alternative venue with food and entertainment. One option was the Voodoo Rooms, a live music venue near to the Hotel where we are staying. Mel to contact them and provide website link for members via email. "Final Space", was next on the agenda. We still had one place left for the Scotland trip, and during the course of the meeting Mel spoke with Bill Parry and by return call Bill confirmed the inclusion of Phil Douglas, or Florida Phil as he is sometimes known, down to his fondness for colourful shirts (sure they will go down well in Murrayfield). Final topic on the list was Mel`s idea of AAA - the Annual Arrssol Awards, along with the Rookie of theYear award, which has been a ritual carried out on several of the previous tours, the idea of introducing an after dinner celebration of all thing crazy within the ARRSSOL party. We have already awarded "Man of the tour - seasoned campaigner award" to Spence and lightweight of the week will be an ongoing presentation. So the idea is to provide trophies and annual shields to respective winners, to be decided by a panel of 4 original ARRSSOL`s. Mel has agreed to sponsor the main shield and the panel will be decided by vote over the coming weeks. Mel empasised the fact that is something that is not to be considered competitive and is borne out of the whole ARRSSOL ethic of "Good Fun". Closing the meeting Iain brought up the subject of the previously discussed Annual Club dinner which had been decided to be held during the Autumn Internationals. Mel to follow this up with email via distribution list.....end (next meeting to be held during j Int...tbc)
